M/Y Saramour - art in a masterpiece

January 01, 2008

"Saramour", a splendid 46-metre mega-yacht built by CRN, is the second vessel of the "Magnifica" line and hull number 118 turned out by the shipyard. Two gold lines add a custom touch to the profile of this boat, highlighting its distinctive personality, together...

..with its owner's quest for a unique vessel. A product of the successful working relationship between the Venetian firm of Nuvolari & Lenard and CRN, "Saramour" has further enriched by the valuable contribution of the Aiello firm of Genoa, which handled the internal spaces.
Simplicity and elegance, discretion and crisp design lines, modernity and history all combine in this highly refined vessel, orienting the stylistic choices of the owner. An erudite, highly cultured individual who loves things of beauty, the owner has also brought his passion for art onboard. In fact, the common theme of the different areas of the "Saramour" are the precious works of art, framed by interior design elements, some of them extremely daring, chosen by architects Carmen Aiello and Leonardo Ferraro of the Aiello firm of Genoa, both of whom are well acquainted with the tastes of the owner. Prestigious paintings by celebrated artists of the early twentieth century are combined with highly sophisticated sculptures of artistic masters and collector's items of great value. Art in a masterpiece: the "Saramour", a sterling expression of Italian shipbuilding excellence, becomes the exclusive and privileged container of other great masterpieces.
The distinctive features of this yacht include the numerous elements of freestanding decoration that reinforce its unique style.
On the main deck, which opens onto the stern, we find rigorously designed "bench" seating that is offset by a massive oak table in the dining area. Rigour is featured in the firm, decisive design choices made throughout the boat (with the panelling, curtains and woods), though it is pleasantly interrupted by the rich, complex furniture and materials employed, such as the Topkapi armchairs by Cassina, as well as the decorative elements, including the exquisite ceramic plate in the main dining room, a prototype by the French artist Boncopain.
Also in this area, in front of the dining space, is a lively painting by the artist Karel Appel that dominates the lacquered wall bounding the daytime zone.
A precise, refined touch is provided by the architectural treatment of light, accentuated by the choice of tenuous, warm colours, such as the ivory, the "Cyprus" yellow and the orange of the fabrics, the leather and the panels, which match perfectly with the light-hued tones of the bleached oak wood and the parquet, also in oak, placed in all the spaces of the boat, including the bathrooms.
In the forward portion of the main deck, the owner's suite fully complies with the principles of linear design and simplicity of colours and forms. Once again the chief highlights are works of art: paintings by De Chirico, Fiume and other artists add lustre to the front wall of the suite, while the decorative elements chosen by the boat-owner include pieces by Venini and Zecchin from the early twentieth century, plus a glass sculpture created at the Angels Forge in Murano.
Leading into the night zone is a study whose chaise lounge offers a chance to relax under the attentive gazes of nobles of the Liguria region depicted in engravings done by Grechetto, a Genovese artist of the seventeenth century.
Enriched with highly refined oriental carpets, the elegance of the Saramour's bathrooms is further enhanced by elegant ceramic tiles by Salvador Dalì.
The extensive side windows showcase the lower deck, set aside for guests, with a cabin that leads onto a roomy lounge and an open exercise area outfitted with Technogym equipment. Three additional guest cabins complete the layout of this deck. In the VIP cabin astern, the yellow and red hues of an oil painting by Appel, the second most important work on the boat, are echoed by the fabrics used to decorate the area.
The command zone is concentrated on the upper deck, with the wheel area and the Captain's cabin. In the bow portion of this deck is an extensive sky lounge built around a central column that hold an important work of abstract art, a grand tribute to abstractionism and the Russian colour of the early twentieth century. A recliner and a corner couch bound this area, which proves ideal for relaxation in the company of others.
Based on the logic applied with increasing frequency to modern vessels, the "Saramour" also sets aside ample space for life in the open air. Splendid "seashell" seats offer moments of distraction on the sundeck, which also hold a dining area, a bar zone and a Jacuzzi whirlpool tub, while the upper deck has an oval table seating 10, making it an ideal site for convivial gatherings.
Care has also been taken with the technical facilities. A large mess room has been included for the crew of 8, who are housed in 4 comfortable cabins, each with its private bathroom, in the forward portion of the lower deck.
The services stairs lead, on the main deck, to a spacious professional kitchen perfectly outfitted with steel appliances for high-level cooking.
In the engine room two Caterpillar 3512 engines manufactured by Swac propel the vessel at a cruising speed of 15 knots and a maximum speed of 16.
"Saramour" is rated in the top class in the Lloyd's Register of Shipping and is build in accordance with the MCA standards.
